So it is getting close to the end of October, which means most of the 2013 Fall shows have started to air. I've never really done this before but here's the assessment of what I'm watching this year (so far) and why. In no particular order:

Supernatural: What can I say, I'm a lifer. As I mentioned a few weeks back, I'm not an angel storyline fan but I am liking this season so far-- especially the Ezekiel aspect. I know some people have issues with it as well as the portrayal choices, but I LOVE it. To me the robotic/socially awkward way Ezekiel is portrayed by both Jared and Tahmoh (YAY) is more of what I had in mind of how an angel would act with humans-- compared to head tilting, "I don't get that reference." or outright superiority we got before. Not meaning that in a Cas bashing sense, in fact I am currently rewatching/introducing my nephew to Supernatural (we are almost done with Season 4) and I actually like Castiel much more than I ever have.

I also like that this season seems to be back to the brothers doing anything for one another, yes that includes the Ezekiel thing. Dean would do anything for Sam, and I believe Sam is back (we won't talk about the Amelia storyline disaster) to being that way for Dean. I understand where some people have a moral issue with the consent issue, but I don't see it that way. To each their own, I am gonna try to not take this show or fandom too seriously anymore.

I also love Abaddon! I think she has the makings of a very good big bad. I'm curious to see who all the Knights of Hell are/were. Were Lilith and Azazel considered Knights or were they higher up the chain? Will we see any others? Will we see Belial, Beelzebub, Mammon, etc? Anyway way, she is a much larger and effective threat than Crowley could ever be. So, yay, Big Bad!

I'm also pro Batcave and Kevin and Charlie. Basically, I'm more invested in this show than I have been for a long time.

Arrow: I'm a sucker for a good superhero, especially one that looks like Stephen Amell dressed in leather. I LOVE FELICITY, OMG. She is a spunkier/sassier Oracle-- sorry Chloe and Barbara. AND DIGGLE! And duh, Roy inching closer to being Arsenal/Speedy. (No, this does not have anything to do with me wanting Colton in skin tight red leather, why do you ask?) Though, while I love Katie... this I HATE THE VIGILANTE shtick is gonna get real old, real quick. Also, yay, Black Canary!

The Walking Dead: Do I have to explain my love for this show? Even the worst episodes of this show are some of the best on tv. I also really love that they are not following comic canon (can't believe I just said that) because it ads to whole NO ONE IS SAFE! feeling. Plus, even if you think you spoiled yourself, it may not turn out to be the case-- hello Andrea and Carol! LOVE IT!

CSI: I can't quit this show, it's my guilty pleasure-- that and the last episode with the cooking show killings... omg. Still miss Gil and Catherine, though. :(

American Horror Story: My track record with this show is sketchy. The first season was iffy at first but I grew to love it. The second season was iffy to begin with and I grew to LOATHE it- seriously HATED that clusterfuck of a season. The third season is starting off to iffy/tentatively liking it. I will stick with it for the season, anyway- if only for Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett.

Sons of Anarchy: I have loved almost every seasonso far-- barring the Ireland getaway-- but for me there is something very off about this season. They keep dragging out storylines like will they/won't they kill off Tig, will Tara leave Jax, Tara vs Gemma round 10.7, if in doubt, let's do porn, etc. I hate how they are treating Juice this season- especially his relationship with Chibs. I'm very disappointed with the whole Lee Toric story and DGAF about Barosky. And it seems like the whole plot this season is let's watch Jax make one stupid fucking decision after another. It will probably win back my interest in the second half, but for now it's kinda the last show I bother with right now.

Grey's Anatomy and The Big Bang Theory I never watch these shows live anymore, I don't know why, but I just don't so... I'll wait til the DVD.

Sleepy Hollow: Like I could not list this first? It is without a doubt my breakout show for the season! It's early Supernatural levels of creepiness and atmosphere and it's a whole series about THE APOCALYPSE! (sorry SPN, liking this better than your Fauxpocalypse) I also love the cast and the team of Abbie & Ichabod. My only gripe: Abbie went out and bought him things like a Gillette Fusion razor that he will never use, but didn't buy him a pair of jeans? This better not be Castiel wardrobe budget 2.0. :| Anyway, if you haven't checked this out, you really should!

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: aka the most annoying TV show name... y'all could have just called it SHIELD. *nod* I really want to like this show, because hello, comic geek and Marvel fanatic... but omg this is getting boring. The pilot was decent, but after that is a spiral of Benadryl and Sominex induced thumb twirling. Coulson is the best character on the show- which I am chalking up to his involvement with the Marvel Cinematic Universe but the rest are... just not good. I want to like May, but so far she is just the ~mysterious pilot lady-- which makes me sad because I love Ming Na. I like Fitz because, what can I say, I am a sucker for a cute geek boy-- superficial, I know. The rest of the cast is blander than Wonder Bread and completely forgettable. I will stick with it for a few more episodes ONLY because Joss has a habit of starting his shows slowly before making me love them. God I hope that's the case here.

The Tomorrow People: I was beyond iffy about this show when I heard about it, and with good reason. To me it sounded like a complete and utter X-men ripoff. Guess what? It is. Including them calling themselves 'homo superior' and 'the next stage in human evolution.' to the whole human bigotry against them angle. Seriously, there should be a drinking game. You win your own mutant if someone says "Children of the Atom," or they bring out Sentinels. I will pass, thanks. (I only made it through part of an episode.)

Super Fun Night: Okay, I don't watch many sitcoms but this has Rebel Wilson in it, what's not to love. Apparently this show. I have loved Rebel in every movie I've seen her in (yes, including the horrid bridesmaids behaving badly-- Not Bridesmaids, the Kirsten Dunst shit pile-- and the dreadfully depressing Chris Colfer movie) but this is just awful. This show commits the worst possible sin for a sitcom, it isn't funny. Like, at all. (I made it through an episode and a half.)

I haven't watched these yet but I will probably check them out:

The Blacklist From what I hear, this is phenomenally good tv but I'm holding out for a few reasons. 1) James Spader: probably one of my least favorite actors out there. 2) The Following: remember this show? It was PHENOMENAL too... until they killed the hot gay guy... and the hot bicurious guy... developed the most inept FBI force ever... and burned the fucking show to the ground all within 13 episodes or so (I gave up when I spoiled myself for Jacob's death.) That being said, I am holding out until midseason to see if people are still in love with it.

Dracula this has cancellation written all over it, but I am a sucker for vampires that aren't on the CW or that sparkle.

Almost Human: Meh, I'm picky about my sci-fi and Fox doesn't have a great track record with this type of show... but I like Karl Urban, so.

That's about it for me, but what do you guys think of this tv season so far? Anything you are absolutely loving, disappointed in, looking forward to? Any suggestions of other shows I should check out? Any shows you plan to drop like a molten pizza roll?

I'm sorry, I'm still stuck back at TWD diverging from canon and you're loving it. *feels your forehead*

HUSH YOU! I only read the TWD wiki, not YEARS OF EVERY COMIC UNDER THE X-BANNER. MY CHILDHOOD TOSSED ASIDE FOR A NOT EVEN HALF-ASSED DEADPOOL, BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS ANGEL, WOLVIEPALOOZA, AND CLUSTERFUCK CONTINUITY. *cries and runs off to my comic collection*

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one failing to be engaged by SHIELD. I just read a lengthy article online about what they're doing wrong and a lot of it came down to how they're failing at any real character identification or development ... and while I was super interested by the premise, there has been nothing - literally nothing - that has impressed me about the three episodes I watched.

I was also VERY underwhelmed by Super Fun Night. I only watched one episode, but I suffered severe secondhand embarrassment that I didn't want/need to watch any more. Which is weird, because I tend to like the more cringe-worthy type of sitcoms.

I AM really loving The Goldbergs and Welcome to the Family ... and have enjoyed Sean Saves the World enough to keep watching. I'm very iffy on the Michael J. Fox show, which I was excited to hear about ... but yeah, just not doing a great job there. I still have The Blacklist and Hostages on my DVR but haven't committed to either just yet. IDK what I'm waiting for, but I just haven't been geared up to try either yet.

I don't watch anything anymore because I cannot focus on anything and lose interest so fast. I've only saw ep 1 of the new AHS so far, it was ok.

But can I haz a pizza roll? :D

SHIELD is just... a cardboard cut out of a show. So far there is little to like. :(

SFN was brutally cringe-worthy and predictable. And the mean girl is just soooo cookie cutter mean girl. AND NOT FUNNY.

I haven't watched any of those, and I think a few got canceled or are on the verge. /o\ Poor NBC just can't do comedy anymore. I don't know if we as an audience are just to impatient or have too high of expectations, but most of the stuff on network tv is just not that good anymore.

This is why I rarely watch anything live anymore. The second episode was better than the first, I think.

I do not have any pizza rolls to give. :( For lunch I had fried chicken embryo with sauteed russet shreds.

I think it's a lot of reasons why TV fails so badly these days:

-Networks jump at flashy things without substance
-Networks jump the gun to cancel shows before they've hit their mark
-No one is doing anything original and engaging anymore
-Viewers aren't watching conventionally anymore so ratings look terrible, thus quick cancellations
-There are too many options these days - what with 200 cable channels and a zillion movies, video games, the entire internet - that viewership is down, looking terrible, and so on

So true! And I also think hiatus times combined with too long of/spread out seasons leads to too many filler episodes which makes us lose interest. I wasn't a fan of thirteen episode seasons at first, but I think they tend to tell tighter stories than the normal twenty+ episodes series do.

I agree 100% with everything you said about SPN, from the delicious evil of Abaddon, to angelic portrayals, to the Return of (the real!) Sam and Dean. S9 is cookin'!!

To each their own, I am gonna try to not take this show or fandom too seriously anymore.

Hear, hear! I'll always take the show more seriously than I do fandom, though. ;)

Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett? Holy Hannah, I love those two! Guess I'll have to check out American Horror Story, ASAP. Thanks for the heads-up! ♥

Season 9 is amazeballs so far! I think the show started picking back up the last half of season 8 and is finally going in a much more cohesive and wonderful direction. And I couldn't be happier!

As for American Horror Story, it is wonderful to see so many amazing actors in one place, especially those two. This season seems (emphasis on seems) a little lighter in tone than the past two seasons, but c'mon, WITCHES! It's bound to get interesting.

*needs an Abaddon icon*

First off, as you know, I am an SPN fan for life and this season has me more hooked than normal. I love the Ezekiel!Sam and how Jared protrays him. You realize they shot the Sam as Ezekiel episode before they shot Tahmoh as Ezekiel episode so he is mirroring how Jared sees an Angel's behavior. I just love that. I am not a Castiel fan either as you know already. But I think this season is going to end up being in my top 3 when it's all over and done with.

Sleepy Hollow... this show is amazing and I love it.

S.H.E.I.L.D... I think I am dropping it because it is not fun to watch, not interesting enough to watch and although I love Joss Whedon and want to support him, I can't find the give a fuck about any of the characters to even bother loading it on my DVR to watch when nothing else is on. I wanted more superheroes less super spy villain government agency.

The Walking Dead.. Enough Said.. this show rocks my socks and I have you to than for that Mr.Nick and your awesome DVD. Thank you for the last four seasons of awesomeness. This season looks dark and gruesome with a side of sad and heart wrenching. The Zombies are better than ever and I am loving Carol so much so far.

I have dropped New Girl because it didn't do anything for me anymore and who really gives a fuck if Jess and Nick are together anyway.

I can not stop watching Boardwalk Empire.. this show is amazing.

A need to check out Show is, Orange is the new black.. OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I can't say enough good about this show's cast and writers. what the show is about

I am going to watch Dracula mainly because 1) I love Vampires and 2) JRM.. need I say more. I just hope it has the writing to keep me entertained and it is not lame like VD or Twilight. Although JRM sparkling would be hysterical to see. From what I've read it is more like Bram Stoker's Dracula with a twist.

I seriously can't be arsed with Blacklist even though it has been recced to me by several people, the thought of watching a bald overweight Jame Spader play a maniacal villain-esque character.. just has no interest for me.

I haven't watched AHS since the middle of seaon 1, tried to watch season 2 premiere and lost interest in it, just watched the premier for season 3 and I like it, have to watch the 2nd episode but I am giving this season a chance mainly because I love Kathy Bates and well Jessica Lang is always worth it even when the show sucks ass she is the tops. Oh and it's about Witches this season and that my friend is an even bigger reason.

I knew that SHIELD would be a spy show, afterall that's what the organization is in the books. I also knew that up until the last few years, SHIELD didn't really have much to do with The Avengers. What I didn't realize is how boring it and it's characters would be. And I really just don't care whether Skye is really wanting to be a SHIELD agent or if she is working from the inside... EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

I also didn't realize that by not being allowed to use origins such as being mutants, cosmic rays, or radioactive spiders would mean, "You get Extermis, You get Extremis, EVERYONE GETS EXTREMIS!" Great, yet another way to make Iron Man the center of attention... Last I Checked CAP was the heart of The Avengers, not Tony... And really outside of Coulson and the SHIELD name/logo/cameos by Hill and Fury, and the occasional mention of Cap or Iron Man, it just doesn't seem to fit into the Marvel Universe for me.

The Walking Dead is good stuff! You're welcome! I am loving this season so far.

I think I only watched a few episodes of New Girl, it was cute and I love Schmidt? but I just don't watch many sitcoms...

I have issues watching period tv shows like Boardwalk, Mad Men, etc... Heck, I tried watching The Masters of Sex last night and it bored me to tears... I don't mind movies about these time periods, but series are a no go.

The other issue I have with Blacklist is this trend of having the megomaniacal villain being the main part in the series, I think I blame Dexter (which I loved until the last season.) The Following, Hannibal, The Blacklist... they seem to be a trend that I just don't care about.

I'm happy you're enjoying SPN, because all the negative reactions and wank I've been seeing on tumblr was starting to piss me off! I really think the first episodes were good, even if I didn't care for a few things due to personal taste/interests and there are some issues, but overall it's been really enjoyable and interesting and I'm really excited about the rest of the season :D

I am thoroughly enjoying- even if I also have some issues with certain choices. And people are definitely entitled to their opinions, but I have seen so much negativity lately, it is insane! Why would some people waste so much energy being miserable and forcing themselves to watch something they don't enjoy anymore, or tweeting/posting about every possible issue (most of which are their own perceptions) they have with it? I just don't get some people.

Like you, I am interested in seeing where the show goes this season!

THIS. I don't get why people need to keep watching and bitching about the show when they're not enjoying it anymore. It's a waste of their time AND it's annoying for those who still like the show :/ Leave the fandom if you're not happy with it and let the rest of us have fun...
