Challenge Meme: Day Seven

• The Amityville Horror. Say what you will and mock me for it, but this was the first book that captured my attention enough to bother reading. I read this my sophomore year of high school-- the last book I had read at this point was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe way back in fifth grade-- and it terrified me! It's obvious now that it was a hoax, but damn was it a good ghost story. Til this day my heart beats a little bit faster when I wake up at 3:15 am, and I always hate looking out a window at night for fear that Jody will be hovering there with its demonic eyes staring back at me.

• To Kill a Mockingbird. Not only is it a classic and the characters are probably some of the most memorable in literary history, but this was the first book that we were supposed to read in school that I actually read. And I did so in one sitting. I cannot express how much I love this book. ♥

• The Vampire Lestat. Don't get me wrong, I love Interview with the Vampire as well. In fact, I like Louis's narrative better than Lestat's. But where as Louis's was pure emo tragedy, Lestat's history was far more epic and poignant. I also may also have secretly shipped Lestat/ Nicholas. Unfortunately, The Vampire Chronicles and Anne Rice's writing in general took a nose dive after this and never really recovered. Need I mention her Christ books?

• The Stand. It's probably cliched to include this on any favorite novels list, but it truthfully is hands down my favorite book. This was the first King novel I read, and it cemented King as one of my favorite authors. I love how he not only focuses on the main characters but even minor one scene characters. It was through those short vignettes that one truly understands the sheer magnitude of the story. Sure you can say the world went to hell and expect your audience to just go along with you, but reading about a kid falling in a hole with no one to help him out or the National Guard killing radio show hosts on air, helps to make it more visceral. This was also my introduction to gunplay, SO NOT IN THE GOOD WAY!. Y'all can have your zombie apocalypse, I'll take The Stand.
