Ok so a headache, general laziness, and a semi-pissy attitude is what I am all about today. That being said I forced myself to go into town today because y'know payday means time for bills and maybe something for myself to cheer me up just a bit. Enter the most bizarre encounter at the local Hastings. (Hastings is an entertainment store for those not in the know, books, movies, music, porn, you name it and they probably have it, or at least mine does anyway.)


Okay so I got all my bills paid and thought I'd stop by and see if there were any good horror flicks for cheap and maybe just maybe see if they had a strategy guide for a game that is pissing me off. Nada to both, but they did have a Supernatural comic on display so I figured hey what the hell. So I picked it up and a few other things and headed to the register.

The cashier was a member of fandom!!! She seriously ripped the comic out of my hands with an uber-squee and then started off about how she was getting off soon just in time to watch tonight's episode. That was the normal part. Keep in mind I am paraphrasing substantially here...

Fandom girl: OMG I love Supernatural so much! I can't wait for tonight, Vampire!Dean!!! *enter shriek here* I can't wait to get off so I can watch it tonight, it's gonna be sweet! Screw you Stephanie Meyers.

Nicky: *nervous smile*

Fandom girl: So are you a Sam!boy, Dean!boy or Cas? Let me guess I am pegging you (yes she used the word pegging *shudders*) for a Dean!boy, that's cool I'm the same. Jensen is so hot, don't ya think?

Nicky: Huh? *blink*

Fandom girl: So how big of a fan are you? Do you just watch or...?

Nicky: Or what, exactly?

Fandom girl: I mean, like, do you read fan fiction or go to the cons or anything? I really want to go to a con one of these days but they're expensive! Do you you read slash?

Nicky: Uh... *still in shock*

Fandom girl: Who am I kidding you probably don't even know what slash is, there are some really great gen stories on Insane Journal. OMG do you go on LJ? I read a lot on there too, you should really try it out if you haven't been there yet. Here you have to look for some of these stories, some are slash, that means gay jsyk. Even if that's not your thing you should try 'em out, they are so awesome. Most are J-squared but there are a few Dean/ Cas fics too. I don't do Wincest cus that stuff's kinda creepy. *passes me a ripped off piece of receipt tape with hastily written recs*

Okay I'm not really sure what to feel about the whole thing. Meeting a fan here is rare, but what are the chances of finding someone in fandom? What exactly did she mean I seemed more like a Dean!boy? For the record I am Sammy leaning bibro with Jensen lust. ;) I'm cool with her having a keen gaydar but what was all the crap about slash? And how was I gonna answer that exactly? Duh, I know what slash is, I try my best to write some from time to time. Knowing my luck if I would have said that, there would have been the off chance that she read my stuff and then it would be like a "Paris/ Chad, really?" or "You killed them, and the dog too. You bastard!" or "Fucking machine fail much?" No thank you. lol

Either way I was not about ready to reveal anything about my fandom involvement. lol

Remind me to buy my SPN stuff online. :\

It depends on what your taste is... the only names I recognized were lazy_daze and architheuthis. There are about five other names on there but I couldn't make most of them out.

I am fine with people being fans and being super excited about their shows, it just caught me off guard with all the talk of J2 and slash reading in general. I live in a 3K person town and the store is in a city of 60K people, Boise I could maybe see but open gay slash loving fangirls in Idaho Falls is like a sure sign of the Apocalypse!
